The Black Dagger Brotherhood series

The Black Dagger Brotherhood series, Dark Lover, Lover Eternal, Lover Awakened, Lover Revealed, Lover Unbound, Lover Enshrined, Lover Avenged, and Lover Mine by J.R. Ward. This was another series that I really enjoyed reading but like the Dark-Hunter series the format of the books was kind of predictable. Predictable or not though, they all got 5 out of 5 stars from me and I can't wait to get a hold of the ninth book Lover Unleashed.

Invincible Sumer

I picked up Invincible Summer by Hannah Moskowitz sitting in a doctor's office waiting room. It was a good book that I enjoyed. However it was nothing like the light fun summery book I was expecting it to be. It brought up some very serious issues.

Noah’s happier than I’ve seen him in months. So I’d be an awful brother to get in the way of that. It’s not like I have some relationship with Melinda. It was just a kiss. Am I going to ruin Noah’s happiness because of a kiss?

The Body Finder Series

The Body Finder and Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting. These books were really good but at this point I was getting a bit burnt out on the young adult relationship drama because the couple never confide what is really going on with one another. Still a really enjoyable series though, my issues with it were my own and were not because of the writing or the author at all.

Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world... and the imprints that attach to their killers.

Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find the dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.

Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer... and becoming his prey herself.

Dead Reckoning

Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris, the 11th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I really enjoy the Sookie series but find that as the books go on while the story live still rocks the writing isn't up to the same quality it began with. I'd still really recommend reading them, but maybe not rate them so high as I once did. Another series that is NOT young adult!

With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover Eric Northman and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot-which is much more complicated than she knows...

The Gathering

The Gathering by Kelley Armstrong. I loved this book for the start of a new series. I very rarely pick up favorite quotes on the first read of a book but there was one in here that just made me laugh and stuck with me to the end: Maya to her dad "We have Kenjii. We have my cell phone. Since we aren't officially dating, I'm sure you'll agree that's all the protection we need."

Sixteen-year-old Maya is just an ordinary teen in an ordinary town. Sure, she doesn't know much about her background - the only thing she really has to cling to is an odd paw-print birthmark on her hip - but she never really put much thought into who her parents were or how she ended up with her adopted parents in this tiny medical-research community on Vancouver Island.

Until now.

Strange things have been happening in this claustrophobic town - from the mountain lions that have been approaching Maya to her best friend's hidden talent for "feeling" out people and situations, to the sexy new bad boy who makes Maya feel . . . . different. Combine that with a few unexplained deaths and a mystery involving Maya's biological parents and it's easy to suspect that this town might have more than its share of skeletons in its closet.

Books 3-5 in the Wicked Lovely Series

I was finally able to finish the Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr! I read the third, fourth, and fifth books next (Fragile Eternity, Radiant Shadows, and Darkest Mercy). I absolutely love this series and I loved the way she wrote the books. Books 1, 3, and 5 (Wicked Lovely, Fragile Eternity, and Darkest Mercy) focused mainly on Aislinn and her story but books 2 and 4 (Ink Exchange and Radiant Shadows) focused on secondary characters who had important roles to play. I liked that she wrote them in the order she did rather than having them come out afterwards as extra stories like so many authors do

Wicked Lovely and Ink Exchange author Melissa Marr delivers another little masterpiece of Urban Faery, that budding subgenre. In this ethereal romance, Aislinn has achieved the fragile eternity of the title; she has become an immortal faery, complicating both her life and that of Seth, the man who loves her.

Thirst No.1: The Last Vampire, Black Blood, and Red Dice

Fourth was Thirst No.1: The Last Vampire, Black Blood, and Red Dice by Christopher Pike. So far I've discovered that I do not like this man's books. They aren't poorly written or anything like that, he just combines subjects that do no go together in my mind. As with his other book I've read they are far to religious for me. I didn't even really enjoy Thirst No. 1 until the very end. I own the next two books so I will continue to read them someday but I'm not in a hurry to do so.

Alisa has been in control of her urges for the five thousand years she has been a vampire. She feeds but does not kill, and she lives her life on the fringe to maintain her secret. But when her creator returns to hunt her, she must break her own rules in order to survive.

Her quest leads her to Ray. He is the only person who can help her; he also has every reason to fear her. Alisa must get closer to him to ensure her immortality. But as she begins to fall in love with Ray, suddenly there is more at stake than her own life....
